Positive Experiences
“Jennifer was a great advisor, she thoroughly and patiently explained all the benefits and advantages of transferring from my current electricity provider to Just Energy. My current energy plan with my current provider is about to expire, therefore, this new arrangement and contract could not come in a better time. I was tired of being pushed into spending a certain amount of minimum kWh per month of electricity in order to avoid penalties and overcharges, and now, with Just Energy, I don’t have that worry.”
“Signing up was super easy. Rhonda was amazing!! If I still had my insurance company I would be stealing her away from Just Energy. Believe that! If I ever have to call for any reason, I will be asking for Rhonda! Completely professional but also compassionate and funny. Communicative and could definitely tell she cares about the situation. So happy I chose Just Energy and had Rhonda to help me make it seamless.”
“The enrollment clerk was awesome and helpful, with lots of patience with us seniors. She was very supportive and knowledgeable about the program. Thanks for a non-stressful transition. 🙏🏾❤️”
“We are enrolling today in the 7 hour free daytime electricity program Just Energy has introduced to Sam’s customers with certain guarantees. Like 15 cents/kWh for the remaining 17 hours. For anyone like retirees staying home who can use electricity between 9am-4pm, it’s all free. I’ve done the math and it works out well for our household.”
“The agent who helped me was very patient and answered all the questions I asked professionally. She ensured we understood all requirements, terms and conditions. Great customer service.”
Critical Feedback
“I recently fell for the sales pitch from their salesperson at Sam’s Club. My first billing cycle was only 14 days and was $140. I wondered why my first billing cycle was only 2 weeks? Well I found out—I had 14 days to cancel but I had no idea what I was going to pay until I had a full billing cycle, and since my cancellation grace period was over, I’m unable to move providers without paying another $175. I’m paying the same amount I was with my previous company.”
“I promptly called and cancelled my connection while moving out of the rental place but 2 weeks later received a new bill for usage of electricity outside of my initial cancellation dates. When I enquired about it they said my connection is still active and asked me to pay for the extra days. Both their customer service and business practices are highly unethical—please be aware and choose better providers in the market.”
“I live in Lubbock and have been using Just Energy. They told me my charges would be $0.012 but charge me $0.015. Their service fee is $90, their automated services give incorrect information about fees and pricing. So many issues—I’d never recommend them to anyone.”
FINAL VERDICT
Our Recommendation
Just Energy: Conditionally Recommended
Established player with billing transparency concerns
Just Energy earns a conditional recommendation based on mixed performance indicators. As a large multinational energy marketer with roots dating back to 1997, the company brings stability and a variety of fixed-rate plans with renewable energy options. Customer sentiment shows promise with a solid 4.5-star rating and a healthy NPS of 59, indicating many customers would recommend the service. However, significant concerns emerge in two areas: the billing clarity score of just 19/100 suggests customers frequently struggle to understand their charges, and 218 PUC complaints over 12 months—nearly double the industry average of 120—signals recurring operational issues. The customer service score of 50/100 indicates inconsistent support experiences. Customers who prioritize straightforward billing or need reliable issue resolution may want to explore alternatives, but those comfortable navigating potential billing complexity may find value in their renewable energy offerings.

Our Methodology
How We Calculate NPS Scores
Our proprietary scoring system analyzes thousands of customer reviews to provide an unbiased assessment of each electricity provider.
- Data Source: Online Reviews from verified customers
- AI Analysis: We analyze each review to distill sentiment and filter out incentivized reviews, bot-generated content, and review bombing attempts
- True NPS Calculation: We calculate Net Promoter Score as (% Promoters) – (% Detractors), where Promoters rate 9-10 and Detractors rate 1-6
- Star Rating: NPS scores are mapped to a 3.0-5.0 star scale for intuitive comparison
About “Billing Clarity” Scores
This score measures how clearly a provider communicates billing to customers—not billing accuracy. Texas electricity providers have robust, audited billing systems that are highly accurate.
- What we measure: Clarity of bill statements, proactive notifications, explanation of credits and charges, time-of-use rate communication
- Why it matters: Customers often report confusion about bills even when charges are correct—this score reflects how well providers help customers understand their bills
- PUC “billing complaints”: Most are about confusing statements or unexpected (but legitimate) charges, not actual billing errors
Pricing Data Collection
We collect electricity plan pricing directly from official sources to ensure accuracy.
- Data Source: ComparePower, the original Texas electricity consumer advocate
- Update Frequency: Prices are synced daily from all 5 TDSP territories
- Usage Levels: We display pricing at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh/month to show how rates vary by consumption
- Coverage: All 17 retail electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market
PUC Complaint Data
Complaint data provides insight into provider accountability and customer issues.
- Data Source: Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) official complaint records
- History: 46+ months of historical complaint data (January 2022 – Present)
- Categories: Billing, Slamming/Cramming, Quality of Service, Disconnection, and Other
- Update Frequency: Monthly updates as new PUC data becomes available
